Student Testimonials
Working with Sreya will forever be one of the most liberating experiences I have had as an artist so far. She creates movement that not only makes an impact, but pushes artists to another level. Through learning and working with her I’ve uncovered new discoveries in my technical training and artistic endeavors. It’s rare to find a visionary who is able to adapt to everyone’s needs and cater to their cast in the most genuine and uplifting manner, but Sreya does that seamlessly. I am so incredibly grateful for her. She inspires me and many others to continue to create a vision that will linger in the minds of many in a positive and powerful way.

Sreya was a wonderful instructor who always made sure to engage with her students and make sure they understood the material. I purposely changed my schedule to take this course. This course is very influential and educational.

The quality of instruction in this class was always amazing! Classes were always very well structured to incorporate stretching to avoid injuries, warm–up dances across the floor to understand choreography better, and then we would all do full–fledged choreography practice. Ms. Muthukumar would always ensure each and every individual in the class understood and would offer support to help us pick up the choreography. She always took the extra step necessary to help us throughout this semester, even offering support outside of class. Would highly recommend any dance class with her!

Professor Muthukumar is one of the best teachers I have had in my four years at Michigan. To be able to, not just motivate, but bring a smile on people's faces at 9am in the morning is such a difficult thing to do and she managed to do it every single time, even when her students were not matching her energy.

The course helped me process my own emotions, allowing me to work through them analytically and physically. I learned how to move into and out of emotions without being afraid of them, or without having that emotion dominate the rest of my day. I learned how to develop an emotion both in my mind and in my body, sometimes focusing on one more than the other to produce a performance. It was a beautiful class that still has me thinking, and I will absolutely carry it with me moving forward.

The yoga flows felt extremely natural and instilled within me a sense of balance, especially when aligned with the breath of the body. I very much appreciated that these yoga flows were more focused on mindfulness as opposed to exercise. This allowed me to listen to my body and really feel the effect that the flow had on my spiritual energy, as opposed to being distracted by the way my muscles felt.

Sreya was a great instructor! I know the class was relatively silent, especially in the earlier parts of the class, but she did a good job of pushing us to participate while still giving us good and meaningful feedback on the quality of our dancing or whether we were missing any steps in particular (individually or as a group). Even when she was teaching via Zoom she did her best to keep us engaged, which I really appreciated.

Simply the best! The teaching style was very intuitive, with a perfect balance of complexity and fun. Her pacing was excellent and carried the newbies(me) without making it a drag. Her dance in itself was an amazing source of inspiration. Wish I could attend more of her classes!

Sreya was an amazing teacher! She was always encouraging us to ask questions and was very good at intuiting what we needed clarification on. She created a very welcoming and inclusive environment in the class. She also would respond to feedback very well and would schedule office hours when we needed them. She was very punctual in giving us the resources we needed in a timely manner. Overall a wonderful teacher, I am glad to have been in her class.

Excellent! Sreya Muthukumar is a passionate and talented teacher. She sets high standards for her students and creates an environment where students want to push themselves towards their best. The course was definitely outside of my comfort zone, and I felt apprehension at the beginning. I did not at all feel that I could perform in front of peers. Sreya Muthukumar helped the class move past the initial apprehension pretty quickly. She was consistently encouraging, while challenging us to work through the discomfort of performing each emotion (rasa). She also supported us by preparing for and debriefing from each emotion.

I enjoyed this class a lot and would love to take it again someday. I think that this class was very beneficial to me and will help me with everyday things in life that I usually struggle with. This class was an amazing experience that I hope everyone will be able to try at least a few times in their life.

By the end of class, I always feel better than when I first walked in with more energy.
